Enclosures, Bars & Catering
When you decide to come racing to Thirsk, you can choose from one of our three lovely enclosures from which to enjoy your day/evening.
The Premier Enclosure has prime grandstand viewing adjacent to the winning post, exclusive restaurant options, including fine dining and the most comprehensive bar choices. It has numerous betting windows, plenty of seating and its own car park and entrance. Here you will enter onto beautifully manicured lawns and pass by the colourful parade ring, where you will fine everything you need to make your day a special and memorable one at Thirsk Races.
Catering and Bars
You can dine in style with a direct view overlooking the winning post in the Thomas Lord Dine & View Restaurant. Offering a sumptuous menu this is our most popular restaurant and therefore advanced booking is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment.
For something a littel more casual, you can enjoy a drink on the Cherry Tree Premier Lawn, grab a fantastic gourmet burger from the Cherry Tree Bar or you join your friends for a drink outside the Woolpack Bar. If you are looking to indulge, you can head to the Shrimp and Stirrup bar where you can purchase delicious chilled Champagne and Seafood platters or head to the beautifully designed Hambleton Dining Room and enjoy an à la carte lunch or afternoon tea. Whatever you are looking for, the Premier Enclosure offers a great choice of dining and comfortable bar options.
Our Private Hospitality facilities are also located in this enclosure, including our Private Boxes and marquees and also plays host to the Ladies' Day Lawn Marquee. This marquee package is exclusive to Ladies' Day, held Saturday 8th September 2018 and details can be found HERE
With access to the parade ring and winners' enclosure, you can welcome in the winning horses and jockeys and you also have access to the paddock and family enclosures on the racecourse: The Premier Enclosure has it all.
A dress code is imposed in the Premier Enclosure, which includes our Private Hospitality Boxes; Gentleman are required to wear a shirt with a collar, smart long trousers and shoes; jackets and ties are not mandatory, but are encouraged. The following items of dress will not be permitted - any items of sportswear, fancy dress, short trousers, ripped or torn garments, mottle-dyed denim, trainers, plimsolls, or any other item that, in the opinion of the management, are not in keeping with the code. Ladies are also respectfully requested to dress smartly for the Premier Enclosure and many do opt to wear a hat or fascinator to compliment their outfit.
The Paddock Enclosure (sometimes referred to as The Tattersalls Enclosure) is in the middle of Thirsk's three enclosures and offers grandstand viewing and seating as well as access to the Parade Ring and Winner's Enclosure.
The Betting Ring and Betting Shop are situated in this enclosure, as well as numerous betting windows, along with the bandstand where you can enjoy live music throughout the day with plenty of space for dancing.
Catering and Bars
Good quality cafeteria-style meals can be found in the Saddle Room where you can purchase the 'Dish of the Day' and fast food and snacks are available throughout the Paddock Enclosure. There are numerous bars in the spacious and modern surroundings where you can choose from the James Herriot Hall, Jubilee Bar or the 1967 Stand to enjoy a drink with your friends or join in the fun at one of themed race meetings, such as the Pennine Brewery Beer Festival evening, where craft beers and ciders can be found.

Paddock Enclosure patrons may transfer-up to the Premier Enclosure on the day (see Premier Enclosure dress code) for the designated transfer fee and can also access all the public facilities on offer in the Family Enclosure (see below).
The Family Enclosure is a great place for the whole family to enjoy. All accompanied under 18's go free and as well as our themed family days, there is a permanent adventure playground to enjoy and bouncy castles on site at our Saturday meetings, Family Days and during the school holidays. All activities are provided free of charge for the children and after a day outdoors you can be sure that the journey home will be a happy one.
This enclosure also boasts grandstand viewing, a betting ring, Totepool betting windows and throughout the Family Enclosure, snacks, fast food outlets and bar facilities are available.
You are also very welcome to bring a picnic to eat alongside the course in this enclosure and this is always a popular choice. Please note we do limit each racegoer aged 18 and over to one bottle of wine OR four cans of beer / cider per person with no spirits are allowed in the family enclosure. Anyone arriving with excess alcohol will not be permitted to bring it into the Family Enclosure and Thirsk Racecourse will NOT store any alcohol on the racecourse premises.
You may prefer to purchase a Park & View ticket which admits a car plus up to four adults to a specified trackside area within the Family Enclosure, ideal for car-boot picnics, as mentioned above.
Family Enclosure patrons may transfer-up to the Paddock Enclosure on the day for the designated transfer fee.
Family Enclosure FAQ's
Do you allow gazebos?
We do not permit gazebo's, tents or any other temporary structure to be erected on the racecourse grounds for the safety and enjoyment of all racegoers.
Can cars be left overnight?
Unfortunately, cars can not be left in any of the racecourse car parks overnight.
Can we bring a barbecue into the Family Enclosure?
We do not allow barbecues in the family enclosure for the safety of all racegoers.
Can we bring our dog to the races?
We do not allow dogs onto the racecourse at any time unless it is a registered assistance dog.
Can we park our car in the racecourse grounds?
Only when purchasing a Park & View ticket.
