Junction Closure affecting traffic into Thirsk

The A168 exit to Sowerby/Thirsk, at the intersection with the B1448, has been closed with effect from Sunday 8th July for an estimated period of 40 weeks. The recommended alternative routes into Thirsk are:

1.      If travelling northbound up the A1M, do not exit at the A168 junction, but instead continue northbound on the A1M and exit at the next junction (A61), taking the A61 directly to Thirsk.

2.      For traffic heading northeast-bound along the A168, take the exit for Asenby/ Topcliffe), then turn left in Topcliffe village on to the A167 (towards Northallerton); then approx. 2 miles later take the A61 to Thirsk at the roundabout. (If however you miss this exit from the A168, the next exit is at the A19 intersection, some 5 miles later, where you can also exit for Thirsk and approach the Racecourse directly through the town centre).

3.      Any traffic coming southbound down the A1M should continue to leave at the first exit to Thirsk (A61) and take the A61 directly into Thirsk.

4.  Any traffic coming southbound down the A19 should continue to leave at the first exit to Thirsk and take the B1448 directly into Thirsk.

Please allow extra journey time for your journey when travelling to the Racecourse, especially on racedays.
