Thirsk Races - Covid-19 impact on fixtures and operations - Latest Update

The British Horseracing Authority has cancelled from Wednesday 18th March until the end of April. Jump racing has been cancelled until at least 1st July. Flat racing, which includes Thirsk Racecourse, in theory could resume from 1st May, although a number of the bigger, festival meetings have already decided to cancel, postpone or operate their meetings 'behind closed doors'.

Following this latest information and advice from the Government and the British Horseracing Authority Thirsk's race meetings on Saturday 18th and Monday 27th April have been cancelled and May's meetings remain under review.

When will the racing take place again? 

At the moment, the first scheduled raceday at Thirsk could be Saturday 2nd May.  We believe that whilst racing may be permitted to take place at some stage in May it is most likely that this would be 'behind closed doors' without any public admission. We will be sharing the latest official updates on our fixtures through our website and social channels as soon as they are available.

What if I have already purchased raceday admission tickets or packages?

All bookings for raceday tickets and badges in April that were made through the Thirsk Racecourse website or over the phone with the Racecourse team have been or are currently being refunded.  Please note that we are operating a 'skeleton staff' and once processed the refunds are presently taking up to 10 working days to return into your bank account. 

Website bookings will be automatically refunded and all other customers who have booked over the phone or by post will be contacted to arrange refunds.  

Any customers who have purchased Thirsk tickets or hospitality through a third party should contact that individual or organisation for a refund.

What if I have a restaurant booking or have a private hospitality box?

All sponsorship, hospitality or restaurant bookings will have the option of either:

- A full refund

or

- Transferring your booking to an alternative race meeting later in the season, subject to availability.

What will happen if I’m an annual badge holder?

We are currently unaware when racing will be reinstated, however we are hopeful that racing will Racing will hopefully resume and we will be able to give an update over the coming weeks.

We will be reviewing annual badge holder compensation when we know the full extent of the affected 2020 race meetings. Please be aware this may take time and we kindly ask for your patience. 

Non raceday conferences and events

All non-raceday events or conferences booked in for April are cancelled. If you have an event booked at Thirsk Racecourse from 1st May onwards we shall liaise with you directly and nearer the time over whether it is safe and appropriate for the event to proceed. If you wish to discuss any matters in this respect now, in the first instance please email: info@thirskracecourse.net
