Introducing The Graham Lee IJF Fund Stable Staff Stakes on Friday 26th July 2024

We are delighted to be hosting The Graham Lee IJF Fund Stable Staff Stakes on Friday 26th July 2024.
The race which is exclusively for stable staff, will take place before racing on Friday 26th July as part of the Go Racing In Yorkshire festival week and has kindly been sponsored by Sky Bet
The race which is limited to twelve riders, will see the jockeys lead out our amazing riders who will all be doing their own individual fundraising to support Graham Lee and The Injured Jockeys Fund

About the race

  • Maximum of 12 riders
  • 1 Mile race on the flat with a flag start
  • The race is to be run ‘hands and heels’ style.
  • Whips may be carried, but are to be used for correction only.
  • A rider who uses a whip other than for correction purposes will be interviewed by the racecourse Stewards who at their discretion may impose a fine of £200, to be paid to Racing Welfare. In cases of severe use of the whip, at their discretion the Stewards may disqualify the horse and rider, placing them last.
  • A jockey coach will be in attendance and riders are required to walk the course with the coach two hours before the race. Riders are also required to attend a briefing with the jockey Coach following the course walk


  • Riders must be over the age of 18 to participate in the Race.
  • Riders must be in current employment as stable staff of registered training yard and must NOT have ridden more than three winners under rules or have held a professional apprentice and conditional licence within the past five years.
  • The rider must have been employed with the nominating yard for a minimum of three months.
  • Riders may only use approved whips and must wear skullcaps and Safety Vests as required by the Rules of Racing. These must comply with the current BHA rules.
  • You are required to have personal accident insurance and liability in order to ride in the race and Racing Welfare will organise this for you and cover the cost.
  • Minimum weight 10 stone; jockeys may carry overweight without incurring a penalty.
  • Should riders need to borrow equipment from the valets, would they please Adele Mulrennan in advance of the raceday so that the valets may be given advance notice.


  • Horses must be registered with BHA and be rated 46 to 75*.
  • Horses must be 4 years old and upwards.
  • Horses must currently be in training.
  • Horses must have run at least 3 times under the recognised Rules of Racing.
  • The horse must be from the same yard as the rider is currently employed.
  • Horses will be led-up in the Parade Ring by licensed jockeys; this will be organised in advance, with jockeys nominated to a runner by Adele Mulrennan.


NB. There will be a degree of flexibility with horses ratings – if a horse’s rating has been increased to no more than 75 between the preceding month, then it will still be eligible to run.


Successful riders will agree to meet the minimum sponsorship obligation of £500
