More than 140 ladies and gentlemen took advantage
of our 'All-inclusive' package in the Executive Marquee for
Ladies Afternoon on Tuesday 16th June 2009.
The day started with a Champagne Reception on
arrival, and a four course luncheon at reserved tables in the
marquee, during which guests were entertained by live music from
'The Gershwin Gang'.

Fashion Slide Show
|
Luncheon was followed by a fashion show provided by
Browns of York and Helmsley, in conjunction with 'Adorn Hats'. This
took place on a specially constructed catwalk inside the marquee. A
range of lingerie, casual and formal outfits were entertainingly
presented by Bernadette Gledhill and a group of energetic models.
We were all amazed by the speed at which they changed
from one fabulous outfit into the next, always appearing
immaculate. The show was a mixture of fashion and
well-choreographed moves on the catwalk, in time to some
lively music. |
Ladies' Day Miscellany
|
Guests then had full use of the Club Enclosure
facilities during the bumper 8 race programme, but were able to
return to their reserved places in the marquee for afternoon tea or
to use the private bar facilities.

Mid-way through the afternoon competitions were held
in the Winner's Enclosure to choose the 'Best Dressed Lady' and
'Best Hat'. These attracted about two dozen entries, and were judged
by Claire Charlston and Karen Dhire of Browns York & Helmsley,
Bernadette Gledhill, and Jennifer Roberts of 'Adorn Hats'. The 'Best Dressed Lady' was Liz Ackroyd
from Hull, who recieved a £200 Browns voucher, one year's
subscription to Yorkshire Ridings magazine and a magnum of champagne
from Playford Ros. She now moves on to represent Thirsk Racecourse in
the 'Go Racing in Yorkshire' Best Dressed Lady Final at the St Leger
Meeting at Doncaster on 10th September 2009,
where she will compete against the winners of similar competitions
held at other racecourses in the County this summer. The runners up received baskets of flowers from Fiori and champagne from Playford Ros.
Carol Fawthrop was the 'Best Hat' lady and won a voucher for a bespoke hat from Adorn Hats, and champagne from Playford Ros.
Carol is no stranger to our competition and was the
'Best Dressed Lady' in 2007. |

'Ladies Day' was a very successful event, with fine
weather and long sunny periods, which allowed our guests to display
their outfits to best effect. We are very grateful to all those
ladies (whether or not they were marquee guests) who made such an
effort to 'dress up' for the occasion, and helped to create such a
good atmosphere for the fixture.
